Status: I love my physical therapist.
Projects: Prepping the basement for the concrete pour, ~ 2 weeks away. Thinking already about the backyard hockey rink.

Status: Thoroughly enjoying the snow globe style weather,  overjoyed that the snowblower started on the first pull of the season.

Status:
Enjoying summer, but not the bugs.  In anticipation of summer fun and changes to come.

Radiolab podcasts, the Dirty Heads, and Ray LaMontagne.
Excited About: the idea of building a backyard hockey rink
Parenting Highlight:
pedaling to keep up with Emma and Will on their bikes.

1-1-11 Update:
Status: the long run of vacation trips and holidays is over, back to the grind full-time soon. Ugh.
On the Nightstand: Firecracker Boys by Dan O’Neil, and Vanity Fair magazine.
New Interests: Easy online business that will make money, now just to create one.
In the IPod: Christopher Williams, Brad Sucks, Freakonomics podcast, and Dan Carlin Common Sense Podcast
Parenting Highlight: My 7 yr old daughter is the sweetest kindest person I’ve ever known.

9-9-10 Update:
On the Nightstand: Vanity Fair magazine, Blick by Malcolm Gladwell
Parenting Highlights: Seeing Will get into the ‘Cowboy Western themed’ homeschool activities with Mama and having the kids get excited to help put together this years Tomeo Christmas DVD line up.
Recent Proud Accomplishment: built a beautiful cedar door for our brand new basement entry hatch.

2-16-10 Update:
On the Nightstand: Hot, Flat and Crowded – Thomas Friedman
On the Brain:
excitement about going to Anchorage for a week-long getaway and taking the kids alpine skiing.
Parental Highlight:
Surviving a weekend with Martha away.

12-20-09 Update:
On the nightstand: Going Rogue – by some lady, and Sometimes We are Always Real Same Same by Mattox Roesch.
Latest book recommendation:
Outlier by Malcolm Gladwell , a most incredible book to read (or listen to as I did)
Current Obsession:
thinking about this possible new job AND preparing for the interview.
The Effects of Aging:
Aching in the morning, but feeling great by the end of the day.
Parental Highlight:
Going to fetch the Christmas tree with the kids and them pulling the sled home all by themselves. Andseeing Will take so well to x-c skiing. He’s got it.

11-29-09 Update:

Finishing the christmas movies, hockey, getting back into skiing.

Convincing myself that house & yard chores are good exercise, Short ski treks, Planning for this years improvements to the community playground

Parenting Highlight: seeing Emma and Will cross-country skiing, building snow forts with the kids, asking them about their day, kungfu fighting

Summer yard work- dirt replaces snow on my shovel. Gathering firewood, getting ready to fish.

Summer is jamming, summer staff are great, I chase endless logistical details, payment from vendors, and on occasion, whims of superiors.

4-7-08 Update:
Current Fun:
It’s hockey season again – every sunday I ski over to the lake.  I’ve also been getting interested in Geocaching and laying out ‘hunts’ for us on our travels.
On the night stand:
Ice Blink – a telling of the lost Franklin expedition.
At Work:
Its budget time of year – crunching the numbers on 2008 and planning for 2009 programs. Also starting to prepare for a drop in tourism for 2009.

3-23-08 Update-
Current Fun:
Just did a fun 3 day dogsledding trip in the park!! Hockey season is still strong. Sledding and wrestling.
At Work:
The 2008 season is looking to be another good one. I’ve got great people all around me, we’re not losing money, couldn’t ask for more.
On the night stand:
Fiasco by Thomas Rick (excellent), before that a page-turning and haunting book is ‘111 Minutes’, about the last 111 minutes the Twin Towers stood.

12/20/07 SnapShot —

Checking the duck pen for eggs, learning more about dinosaurs from Emma & making heat from wood.
At Work:
I’m off for a week plus, long overdue.

    David – what a treat to visit this website! I read every word of your Christmas letter – so interesting. Your family is beautiful. I didn’t know about Will – blessings everywhere!
    I have been retired for a few years now – my passion is painting. I have completed about 70 pieces over the past 2 years. I love it! Just got 2 paintings accepted in a juried show. No plans to sell – but maybe…
    We haven’t been back to Alaska – but have been to Madagascar and Peru – plan to go to Bhutan and Thailand in March. We’re still on the lake in Tennessee. Families are growing – son Karl getting ready for baby girl #3 in May.
    I gave a Peace Corps recruiting presentation in October – what a bunch of memories rediscovered. I am so glad that we are still in touch. Much love to you and Martha – Emma and Will

  2. Love the blog…brings back the great memories at Alfred…your impact on my life still resonates…cowboy coffee cold rainy mornings in the dacks… if we ever head to Alaska hopefully we could go for a ski or swim depending on the season of course
